Hope you’re all well. This morning I have changed a bit of the navigation and removed the SEM section having decided it’s not all that relevant to what I’m doing here. Plus while my posting is so haphazard I’m not sure there’s much point.

Yesterday I wrote my first song in years (aside from my lyrical work with RiseBaileyRise), plus it’s the first song written on my ukulele. it’s very chilled out and the vocal is deeper than I’d usually go for but I think it works. This was a one take recording made as soon as I finished the 1st draft of lyrics. I expect there will be some arrangement and lyrical changes, but here it is – Battles

Eddie Vedder’s Into The Wild soundtrack is fantastic and for me, the song Society is a real standout. This line in particular resonates with me strongly. That’s why when I stumbled upon this promo shot from the movie, I thought the two were perfect together.

Been a while since I’ve shared something random and cool. It’s not a new posts, it’s been kicking around for over a year, but I saw it doing the rounds on twitter a couple of weeks back.

Emma Coats an artist at Pixar was tweeting some story basics and there’s a nice round up of them here: http://www.pixartouchbook.com/blog/2011/5/15/pixar-story-rules-one-version.html

Including some great advice and creative exercises such as:

#20: Exercise: take the building blocks of a movie you dislike. How d’you rearrange them into what you DO like?

#13: Give your characters opinions. Passive/malleable might seem likable to you as you write, but it’s poison to the audience.

Thoroughly recommend reading through these 22 tweets size bits of gold.

There’s a lot of peace to be found in flying a kite. There’s a lot of fun to be had too. Unleash your child on a kite and watch them beam with joy (assuming you can get it flying!)

Final video from tonights Ukulele session. Weak by Skunk Anansie. A fantastic song from their debut album Paranoid & Sunburnt.

In all the years I played guitar, I never really thought of playing this. Love how the ukulele has made me braver at playing a wider variety of songs.

Anyway, to the video! I get a bit carried away at the end, so sorry about that

The really sad thing about tonight’s uke session is that I am wearing the same top I had on for the last set… tut tut, it’s digusting…

Beautiful Freak by Eels was their 1996 debut album. It’s an absolute cracker of unrelenting misery. When I look back, a 12 year old listening to this album as much as I did cannot be possibly be healthy but nevermind.

Bit happier with this than the last two I have just posted, enjoy x
